Magazine Cover, Next Draft

Here is the next draft to my magazine cover, it is still fairly similar to the previous design, with minor changes made in certain areas.

Poster, next draft

After a little bit more audience feedback, people said they preferred the image in the first draft and the template in the second draft, so I have attempted to combine elements from both in order to have an overall better poster (Again, blogger for some reason makes the image brighter)

Audience Feedback

Here is the audience feedback I did for my film trailer "Tempest" as well as the ancillary texts to go along with it.

Film Poster Update

After conducting my audience research, I discovered that most people actually prefered the original design over the second version which I initially believed to be better, however seeing as people saw the first design as the better design, I have decided to keep that design as the official poster for my film. They also were fine with the design for the magazine cover with no initial problems so I shall be keeping that as well (Note: For some reason blogger makes the image brighter than it is).

Film Poster Next Draft

I have designed a new poster for my ancillary text, this time I have adapted a new colour scheme, rather than be all green it is now green & black, this is a colour scheme that I am happy to stick with as it is reminsiant of science fiction films such as The Matrix. Instead of having the main character facing away from the poster, he is now directly facing the audience and I have chosen a "fading" design (See previous post) I personally think this design is far better than the previous one as it looks more professional and gives a better tone of the film. I have also removed a lot of the text featured in the previous draft as it made the poster feel far too cluttered. However I still feel as though there could be minor improvements made to it, as I feel it is a little too empty. Also I haven't decided on specific things, such as the placement of the supporting characters, so I have two different designs on the poster and still haven't decided which one to use.

Audience Feedback Questions

I shall be getting my audience feedback soon, hopefully I shall have it by next weekend (29th March) and I shall be doing my feedback in video format to get the viewer's instant reactions and first thoughts. After watching the trailer, I shall ask them questions about it, these are those questions.

1. What was going on in that trailer?

2. What genre would you describe it as?

3. Were you confused by anything?

4. Did you like it?

5. What did you think of the characters?

6. How would you improve it?

7. Was there anything in particular that stood out to you, good or bad?

8. Do you think it gave too much away?

9. Who do you think would like this?

10. Would you watch the film?

Film Trailer First Draft

Here is the first draft of my film trailer for a film named "Tempest". In this trailer it explains the basic synopsis of the film and introduce the protagonist, seeing as it is a teaser trailer it doesn't give that much away of the plot, just a set up. As for the trailer itself, sadly I was not able to film all I wanted as we lost one of our major props and couldn't film the scene we wanted, so I had to improvise parts of it. I also see a lot of improvments that need to be made; particularly with the sound design, which I dislike and will probably need to redo from scratch.

Magazine Cover First Draft

Here is the front cover for my film magazine as part of my ancilliary text for my film trailer. For the image on the front cover I designed it so the protagonist of the film is cloaked in shadows and is slowly blending in with the black background to show how isolated he is. Admittedly the actual design didn't turn out looking perfect so I will need to work on that. As for the actual design of the magazine, I based it off of the film magazine "Empire" and used similar motifs as them and which conventions to follow. The colour scheme I just chose because I knew my cover would have a black background so I wanted something that went well with that, and red seemed to be a good choice so I went with that.Overall I do see a lot of room for improvement for this cover, particularly with the character picture and the font of the text (which just doesn't look right to me), so while I am okay with this being the first draft of my magazine cover, for the finished product I would need to make some serious changes.

Poster First Draft

Here is the first draft for my poster as part of my ancilliary text, I have chosen the colour scheme of green as this is usually related to science-fiction, however I may end up changing the colour scheme to blue/silver, as green is usually for science-fiction films focusing on Aliens (E.g. Alien, Return of the Jedi) which mine does not, usually science-fiction films that focus on Earth or humans (Particularly modern films) have a blue/silver colour scheme (e.g. Robocop, Star Trek, Elysium, The Avengers). I have chosen the convention of the protagonist being the only one on the poster and having their back turned from the camera (See previous post). The reason why I have done this is because firstly my film only gives focus on the main character of Hayden, and the reason why he has his back turned is because he is a very mysterious character who is just known as an assassin and doesn't really have an identity at the start of the film. Other conventions that it follows are quotes from critics along the side and the production names being squeezed in at the bottom. I do see a lot of room for improvement for this(Mostly with the picture itself), however for a first draft I am happy with what turned out.

Magazine Cover Template

Here is the current design for the magazine cover of my film as part of my ancilliary text. It is only the template and I do think that it shall require a lot of work once I have taken the photo for the magazine, mostly rearranging certain parts and changing the size of the text . I am yet to recieve feedback on this design.
